You won't have to wait until PlayStation 7 for a new game set in the "Old Republic" era.
The main show of The Game Awards 2025 opened with a cinematic trailer for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. This is a single-player role-playing action game in the Star Wars universe, developed by Arcanaut studio under the leadership of Casey Hudson, former producer of BioWare and director of the original Knights of the Old Republic.
The announcement instantly became one of the main surprises of the ceremony, but the euphoria did not last long. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier recalled that, according to Lucasfilm Games, Arcanaut studio was founded only this year, so 2030 looks like a rather optimistic scenario. In his comment, he also suggested that Fate of the Old Republic may be released on a conditional PlayStation 7, noting that projects presented at TGA with the help of CG trailers are often canceled even before release.
Casey Hudson himself reacted quite quickly to these words. In his X account, he urged not to worry about rumors about the timing and directly stated that the game would be released before 2030.
«Don't worry about the "not before 2030" rumors. The game will be released earlier. I'm not getting any younger!»
So far, little is known about Fate of the Old Republic. The developers do not disclose the platforms, the estimated release window, or gameplay details. It is only specified that the main character will be a Force user, and the main emphasis will be on battles, a deep story, and the freedom provided to the player. At the same time, it is known that the game is at an early stage of production.
