The Capcom franchise will soon return with a new adaptation.
The first trailer for the Street Fighter movie from Paramount Pictures and Legendary premiered at The Game Awards 2025, and judging by the reaction on social media, fans of the franchise were completely delighted.
Director Kitao Sakurai deliberately bets on a hyperbolized, frivolous tone with an abundance of references to game situations, costumes, and signature moves. This approach was warmly received by the audience.
Commentators note that the film will probably be simple but fun, and some even call it "stupid but brilliant." Some compare the atmosphere to "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and demand to "give a raise to whoever came up with all this."
The main roles were played by Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), Kallina Liang (Chun-Li), Jason Momoa (Blanka) and 50 Cent (Balrog). They are joined by wrestler Roman Reigns (Akuma), Cody Rhodes (Guile), Orville Peck (Vega) and David Dastmalchian (M. Bison) and others.
The film takes place in 1993. Ryu and Ken are forced to meet again at the World Warrior tournament, where Chun-Li involves them. However, a conspiracy is hidden behind a simple competition, which could turn into a disaster, and if the heroes fail to unite, they will all face "Game Over."
Street Fighter will be released on October 16, 2026.
