The absence of Sonic at the year's main gaming ceremony raised questions among fans of the series.
Before The Game Awards ceremony, Sega hinted at an important announcement, which ultimately turned out to be Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 from Creative Assembly, also published by Sega. However, some fans of the Sonic franchise were concerned about the absence of the blue hedgehog at the main gaming ceremony of the year.
The situation was commented on by Sonic Team's social media manager, Katie, known as KatieChrz. In her message, she congratulated the winners of The Game Awards and addressed Sonic fans separately. According to her, the team has had "some amazing years" and is now "gearing up for even bigger things," but urged them to wait until the developers are ready to share news.
Thus, Sonic Team's absence at TGA is explained by the fact that the team is not yet ready to show its work. Apparently, the next major news about the series will appear only when the developers consider it really ready for a public announcement.
Earlier, the head of Sonic Team also noted that the company intends to develop a format in which an entire year is dedicated to one character, as was the case with the "Year of Shadow." Against this background, suggestions have emerged that 2027 could become the "Year of Amy Rose." The heroine is expected to play an important role in the movie "Sonic the Hedgehog 4", scheduled for release on March 19, 2027, and may also get a personal game.
