The Astronauts reported on Witchfire sales and released a major update with new melee and ranged weapons.
Polish studio The Astronauts announced that Witchfire has sold over 500,000 copies since its Early Access release. For a project that has been in development for eight years and is still far from version 1.0, this is an important commercial milestone.
Simultaneously with the sales news, the developers released a major update called The Reckoning. It is one of the final stages of Early Access and significantly expands the game's combat and system components. The main change is related to the development of melee combat: players received several new types of weapons, including a morning star, katar, and shield, which can now be combined with firearms and magic.
Significant changes have also affected the witchfire collection system. The more resources a player accumulates, the more dangerous the opponents become, and the more often additional events begin to occur in the world. The game also features new challenges that are unlocked by collecting pages from the Codex Malleficarum, and spheres have been added to the map that provide temporary buffs to the hero's abilities and help balance the increasing difficulty.
In addition, the developers introduced a new Velmorn vault. The authors clarified that they had to abandon their original plans to release two vaults in order to focus on creating the most ambitious content. At the same time, the second vault is still planned for the future.
Along with the update, Witchfire received official verification for Steam Deck, as well as a set of new accessibility options, including an arachnophobia filter and font scaling.
The full release of the game was previously planned for the end of 2025, but now the release of version 1.0 is expected in 2026. Until then, the developers intend to release one more major update, after which they will focus on balancing and content support for the project.
