Liquid Swords, a studio founded by Christopher Sundberg (co-founder of Avalanche Studios), has shared some details about Samson: A Tyndalston Story.
The game does indeed bear the hallmarks of Avalanche's two most famous projects: Mad Max and Just Cause. From Just Cause comes the emphasis on physics, inertia, and interaction with the environment, but without exaggerated chaos and spectacle for the sake of spectacle. Samson focuses on a more grounded and realistic approach. From Mad Max comes brutal hand-to-hand combat and vehicle combat.
The combat system completely abandons stylization in favor of functional and meaningful brutality. There are no preset weapon sets: the player uses whatever comes to hand - wrenches, tires, pieces of brick, boards, and more. The environment always allows for improvisation. Melee weapons can be stored in the trunk of the car, but you can always get something else. Strikes have weight: they break environmental objects, leave visible marks on the character and opponents.
Driving is one of the key elements of the game. The developers emphasize the feeling of mass, inertia, and physical impact. Each type of transport feels different. You can capture any car, and, unlike Grand Theft Auto, Samson doesn't throw the driver out - this means that the hero actually steals the vehicle together with the owner (details have not yet been confirmed).
