The actress wants to offer an original rethinking of the heroine.
Recently, two games about the adventures of the tomb raider Tomb Raider were announced at once: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst — a rethinking of the 1999 classic and a new story.
Not everyone was happy with the announcement of Legacy of Atlantis. For example, co-author of the original game Paul Douglas said that he "would prefer to explore new lost worlds than another remake/remaster of what was created in the 90s."
The new Lara Croft actress, Alix Wilton Regan, responded to his statement during a conversation with The Gamer with a smile:

The actress said that although she played the previous parts to understand where her version of Lara fits into the canon, it would be "counterproductive" to focus too much on past incarnations. According to Alix, her version of the heroine is a "very, very cool, original rethinking of Lara Croft."
