The Assassin’s Creed adaptation is gradually gaining details.
According to Variety, Johan Renck has been appointed as the director of the upcoming series in the Assassin’s Creed universe. He is a titled director who has worked on «Chernobyl», «Vikings», «The Walking Dead» and «Breaking Bad» in different years.
The appearance of such a big name in the project hints at serious and long-term plans of Netflix and Ubisoft Film & Television, although the company took a more modest approach to casting, without using first-rate stars.
Among the approved actors are Toby Wallace («Euphoria»), Lola Petticrew («Here Before»), Zachary Hart («Slow Horses») and Laura Marcus («Death by Lightning»). All of them are listed as members of the main cast, but their roles are still kept secret.
Filming of the series will begin in Italy in 2026. According to rumors, the setting for the first season will be the era of Ancient Rome during the time of Emperor Nero (54-68 AD).
The estimated release date has not yet been revealed.
