Russian iPhones are turning into "bricks" - scammers deceive children by promising to restore access to Roblox
Fans are trying to regain access to their favorite game, and their interest in Roblox is being exploited by malicious actors.
Roblox has been blocked in Russia, and fans are trying to find different ways to bypass the ban. This is being exploited by scammers who are attacking fans of the popular project.
The Baza Telegram channel drew attention to cases of iPhone blocking — Russians' smartphones are being turned into "bricks," and malicious actors are demanding a ransom.
The scheme is simple: under the pretext of "bypassing Roblox blocking," the victim is lured into clicking on a link and downloading an application. In it, you need to enter your Apple account login and password, supposedly after that the application will appear in the App Store. After entering the data, the phone restarts, and a message about blocking the device appears on the screen.
The parents of one of the victims immediately took the iPhone to a service center and learned that such cases are not uncommon:
[... there] they were told that there is practically nothing that can be done with the device: it can either be sold for parts or try to reflash it for 20 thousand rubles — without a guarantee of success and with complete deletion of information. The service also noted that teenagers with such problems due to the game have started to contact them much more often — there have been about 15 similar cases in recent times.
