A major failure occurred in League of Legends: players in several regions could not log into the client and access the main functions. Riot Games temporarily disabled ranked queues while engineers fixed the problem.
Riot acknowledged the failure on social networks and reported:
We are aware of an issue that is affecting games and preventing some players from logging in. Ranked queues are temporarily disabled while we work on a fix. Thank you for your patience.
Login through the League of Legends client was restored, but downloading the game and updates remained unavailable. The developers announced that this was expected and work was underway to update the installers.
Later, a Riot employee with the nickname RiotFlixxy stated:
We believe the necessary fixes are now working in both the Riot Client and the League Client.
Riot did not name the official cause of the failure. According to the community, the problem may have been related to an expired client security certificate, but the company has not confirmed this.
Services are gradually stabilizing. Players are advised to restart the Riot Client and install all updates.
