Forza Horizon 5 Brought Microsoft $300 Million After Release on PlayStation 5
The Forza Horizon 5 port for PS5 has become one of the most successful examples of Microsoft's multiplatform strategy.
Forza Horizon 5 was released in 2021 as an Xbox and PC exclusive, and in April 2025 it reached PlayStation consoles. The PS5 release brought Microsoft additional revenue: according to Alinea Analytics, revenue from the Sony platform version was approximately $300 million.
Already at the pre-order stage, the standard and premium editions took first place in the PlayStation Store in the USA, Canada, and the UK. Eight days after its launch on April 25, the game became the fastest-selling Xbox game on PlayStation, surpassing 1.4 million copies. A month later, sales reached 2 million, and eventually grew to 5 million copies.
Analysts note that the success of Forza Horizon 5 has confirmed Microsoft's new strategy, which is increasingly releasing key titles on third-party platforms. On February 17, the RPG Avowed from Obsidian will be released on PS5, and Fable, according to rumors, may be released on the Sony console simultaneously with Xbox.
At the same time, Forza Horizon 6, which will take place in Japan, will initially only be available on Xbox and PC. According to journalists, the delay in the PS5 version is not due to a change in priorities, but solely to the fact that the development of the FH6 port began later than the work on the Fable port.
