Tests have shown that melee combat can be very interesting.

The studio of the creator of Just Cause, "Liquid Swords," recently presented several answers to community questions about the Samson project.

They decided to talk about the choice of setting and the reason for abandoning the use of firearms.

The protagonist is not a superhero or a soldier, he has no special training and fights with what he has:

We love old action movies from the 80s and 90s. Where some brazen daredevil started huge fist fights and won thanks to perseverance, determination, stuntmen, and broken scenery. Movies like "They Live", "Perfect Weapon" or "Who Am I?". When you pick up a gamepad and go out into the streets, we want you to feel like a cool fighter living in a city full of equally cool guys. Some will step aside for you, while others will make you sweat.

The developers of Samson wanted to make the player feel: he has to fight for survival, he himself is a dangerous type in a cruel, dangerous city.

Initially, they wanted to introduce gameplay with firearms and light melee combat into the game, but in the process of experimenting, they realized that they needed to focus on hand-to-hand combat:

We love shooters, but we also love fighting games, beat 'em ups and stuff like that. Sifu, Oni, The Warriors and Sleeping Dogs are all amazing. So we enthusiastically set about developing melee combat, creating big brawls, powerful strikes and stylish finishing moves. In the end, we realized: pulling out a gun is too easy and fast, and hand-to-hand combat gives more dirty, chaotic fights. We could let the player grab a guy, throw him against the wall and immediately turn around to kick the ass of an approaching buddy with a brick. We decided to see how much fun we could squeeze out of bare fists.
