Former Marathon Art Director Proud of His Work on the Game
Art director Joseph Cross, who recently left Bungie, commented on his departure for the first time. In an interview, he noted that despite criticism and skepticism online, he is proud of the team's work.
Cross was responsible for the visual aspect of Marathon, creating a bold "acid-cyberpunk" style that differs from the usual realism of the genre.
I believe in what we did. I think we created something really cool, and I think it will work. I can't influence the gameplay — I'm not a designer or game director. I only controlled what was in my area of responsibility, and I am very happy with the result.
No one can take that away from me, no matter how much haters try online or elsewhere. It doesn't matter if someone likes my art style, if someone agrees with Bungie's decisions, or if there's some trendy complaint now — you can't take away what matters most to me.
Ahead of its release in March, Bungie is declaring its ambitions for the extraction shooter genre.
