The new Resident Evil film will be the most expensive project in Zak Kreggar's career.

Producer Roy Lee shared new details about the Resident Evil reboot, which is being directed by Zak Kreggar. In an interview with Collider, he emphasized that the film will be fundamentally different from previous adaptations and will focus on a sense of presence comparable to playing the game.

"This film is different from 'Guns.' It's a rollercoaster of non-stop action, told from the point of view of one character and based on the original story in the world of Raccoon City. Zak aims to make the viewing experience as close as possible to the experience of playing the game."

The project's budget exceeds $80 million. According to the producer, the increase in funding directly reflects the scale of the production.

"If you look at the evolution of his films — from a $4 million picture [on 'Barbarian'] to $38 million ['Guns'], and now to a project with a budget of over $80 million — each time the money ends up on the screen."

Lee added that the increased budget allowed them to extend the shooting schedule and devote more time to technically complex scenes.

"It just gives him more time to shoot some of these really technically challenging shots. Telling the details means spoiling the viewing pleasure."

The premiere of the new Resident Evil film is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
