The studio also assured that there will be no paid content in the game that affects gameplay.
Bungie has revealed plans to support Marathon after its release. The developers announced that each season will last about three months, and all content within the seasons will be free for all game owners.
According to the published plans, seasonal updates will add:
- New gameplay elements
- Equipment and weapons
- Runner skins
- Zones
- Events
In addition, the seasons will change the progression, leveling, and mastering of survival mechanics. The developers promise to adjust loot and character development, creating space for new "metas" and playstyles.
After launch, players will be able to unlock the fourth zone — Cryo Archive. This is an endgame location with puzzles and vaults to unlock.
In the second half of March, a ranked mode will appear in the game, where you can earn valuable rewards.
The second season will be called Nightfall. According to the plot, the actions of players on the lost colony will attract the attention of UESC, which will strengthen security measures and begin to actively counteract the "criminal activity" of runners.
Each season will have its own theme and unique set of content and stories that develop the world of Marathon. For example, Nightfall will feature a night version of the Dire Marsh location, a new Runner skin, weapons, modifications, cores, and contracts.
A Cradle system will also be added — it will allow players to more flexibly manage the strengths and weaknesses of their Runner by customizing characteristics.
At the end of the season, the game will have a complete progress reset: equipment, contracts, faction reputation, and character level. According to Bungie, this will preserve the feeling of tension during matches, increase the value of loot, and make it easier for those who took a break to return to the game, as well as for new players.
