Sony to Implement FSR Frame Generation in PlayStation - First Details

Mark Cerny is currently developing the next-generation PlayStation console, and it seems that Sony's close collaboration with AMD will lead to the PS6 or even the PS5 Pro getting support for FSR Frame Generation.

FSR Frame Generation is an AMD technology based on machine learning that generates additional frames between those already rendered. In practice, this should increase smoothness and create the feeling of higher performance without having to render each frame "from scratch."

The situation became more interesting after confirmation from Mark Cerny. The information was revealed in a Digital Foundry article, where the PlayStation architect talked about the collaboration between Sony and AMD within the Project Amethyst framework.

I want to clarify a few points regarding the collaboration with AMD: the new PSSR uses the same jointly developed basic algorithm as the FSR Redstone upscaling. FSR Frame Generation is also based on technology created by us together. I am very pleased with the progress, and an analogue of the frame generation library should appear on PlayStation platforms at some point.

Cerny did not specify which device he was referring to.

These are excellent questions... I can only say that we have no new releases planned for this year. And I will be happy to share more details about this in the future.

With this in mind, it is assumed that the technology is primarily being prepared for the PS6, although the option with the PS5 Pro is not yet excluded.
