The Mortal Kombat adaptation returns with a larger and more ambitious sequel.

The upcoming action movie "Mortal Kombat 2" will be the longest film in the history of the film franchise. According to data from the AMC cinema chain, the sequel's runtime will be 116 minutes, compared to 110 minutes for the 2021 film.

The difference of only six minutes seems insignificant, but for a project with a large cast, it may be more important than it seems. Previously, director Simon McQuoid noted that the sequel "grew" as the first part gained views on streaming services, and as a result, the team made a large-scale summer blockbuster. Karl Urban, in turn, called the film "the best video game adaptation in history."

The sequel continues the events of the first part after the expulsion of Shang Tsung and takes the conflict to a new level — the fighters of the Earth Realm will have to face Shao Kahn.

Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and Josh Lawson will return to their roles. The film will also feature Kitana, played by Adeline Rudolph, and other familiar characters from the series.

The premiere of "Mortal Kombat 2" will take place on May 8, 2026. Meanwhile, the script for the third film, judging by the hints of producer Todd Garner, is already ready.
