The final season of "The Boys" has started with a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is already among the best in the franchise's history. At the time of publication, it has a 96% "fresh" rating based on 25 reviews, and the figure may still change as new reviews are released.

For comparison, the third season holds the top spot with 98% with over 150 reviews, so the fifth has a chance to approach the record or at least secure itself nearby. It has already surpassed most other seasons and the spin-off "Gen V", confirming its status as one of Prime Video's most stable projects.

Critics were shown seven of the eight episodes, and they agree on one thing: the series has not become softer towards the finale. On the contrary, the authors have enhanced the qualities that initially made it a must-watch — a scathing deconstruction of the superhero genre, a straightforward satire on corporations and politics, as well as a willingness to push any conflict to the limit without regard for genre conventions.

However, there was some criticism. Belen Edwards from Mashable believes that the series is too fond of shock content and does not always offer sufficient depth. So far, her review remains the only "unfresh" one and forms the 4% that was not enough for a perfect rating. Other critics also note that the show sometimes looks formulaic and drawn out, but overall this does not affect the final perception of the season.

The final season premieres on April 8 — the show starts with two episodes at once, after which new episodes will be released weekly until the finale on May 20.
