Rockstar is still in no hurry to bring Red Dead Redemption to the big screen, although those who want to are already lining up.
Karl Urban has joined the ranks of actors who publicly support the idea of a Red Dead Redemption film adaptation. Moreover, he has already decided on the role — the actor would like to play John Marston, the main character of the first part.
In an interview with Square Mile, Urban admitted that the game holds a special place for him:
«Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games. It's amazing. [In my youth] I didn't have the opportunity to immerse myself in video game culture <…> because I was an unemployed actor and couldn't afford a console. When the opportunity arose, I no longer had time because of work. But when I did get the rare opportunity to play, Red Dead Redemption was one of those games that really impressed me».
Interestingly, Urban is not the only one who has been talking about a possible film adaptation lately. Earlier, Jack Black also expressed interest in participating in the project, although he doubted that Rockstar Games would give him the green light. Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("The Walking Dead"), in turn, stated that he was ready to play Arthur Morgan in the Red Dead Redemption 2 film adaptation for free.
So far, Rockstar has not commented on possible plans to bring the series to the screen. Urban himself, meanwhile, will soon appear in another game adaptation — "Mortal Kombat 2", where he will play Johnny Cage. The film will be released in foreign theaters on May 6, 2026.
