It seems that the interest was influenced by the critics' ratings. The Occultist received 6.7/10 on OpenCritic. The lowest scores were given by PlayStation Universe (5/10) and Well Played (5.5/10). They complain about the boring main character, repetitive puzzles, and performance issues on the PS5.
A short duration is also noted – about 5–6 hours. LootLevelChill reports frame rate issues in the version for the Sony console.
