Spiders ceases operations - the studio behind GreedFall and The Technomancer closes down
Sad news from Paris: Spiders, the studio known for GreedFall, Steelrising, and The Technomancer, is ceasing operations.
The reason is the severe financial situation of the parent company Nacon, which unsuccessfully tried to sell the studio to cover its debts. No buyer was found, and this coming Wednesday, the court administrator will file for liquidation. Thus ends the team's 18-year history.
Inside the studio, the atmosphere is heavy: project development has stopped, and employees, instead of working on games, are updating their resumes and undergoing training in search of new jobs.
Employees were even offered to buy out office equipment and computers. The usual evening team gathering turned into a farewell and a tribute to almost 20 years of working together. Under French law, termination notices must be issued within 15 days of the court's decision.
The closure of Spiders is just one part of Nacon's problems. As part of the restructuring, other studios are also at risk, including KT Racing (WRC series) and Cyanide Studio (Call of Cthulhu).
