Nintendo is creating a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 from scratch - rumor
There has been no official announcement, but there are already quite a few rumors.
A new batch of rumors has emerged online about a potential remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is reportedly set to be released on Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming years.
Insider Nash Weedle, speaking on the Attack The Backlog podcast, stated that the project is being created "from scratch" and is not a simple remaster. According to him, the developers are completely rebuilding the game, which indicates the large-scale and expensive nature of the production.
It is reported that the first information about the project appeared back in 2022 – at that time, the studio was allegedly looking for specialists for key creative and artistic positions. Currently, the team is experimenting with visual style, but the final direction has not yet been revealed. At the same time, the source emphasizes that this is a high-budget development.
There are also hints of Monolith Soft's involvement – the studio known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series and for assisting in the creation of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. According to rumors, it could be either the main developer or play a significant role in the production.
The official announcement of the remake is expected to take place as early as next month at a major Nintendo Direct presentation. There, according to the insider, the estimated release date – late 2026 – will also be announced.
