Activists again cancel the creators of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - this time for ties to Anita Sarkeesian
It seems some will no longer buy the next project from Sandfall Interactive studio.
In early May, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 once again came under fire from activist gamers. Photos of Anita Sarkeesian meeting with the game's developers went viral in the community.
More than 10 years ago, Anita "gained fame" through her video series Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, in which she examined the portrayal of women in the gaming industry. Some players have disliked her ever since, and any mention of her evokes extremely negative emotions.
After the joint photo with the Expedition 33 team was published, a wave of "cancellation" of the developers and the game began. Some are now very wary of the potential future project of Sandfall Interactive studio, while others are boycotting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33:
I love Clair Obscur, but if [Anita] is involved in the next game in any way — I'm skipping it. The first game had a perfectly normal ending. I will not support a project she is involved in. Maybe I'll pirate it, but I won't buy it.
*** Sandfall, you are dead to me now. You are just ********.
I will never buy anything from this studio again. [Anita] is a terrible person and a reaper of the studios she worked with.
Sckarton1 stated: "I was interested in Expedition 33, but since this **** is with them — I won't buy it." In another post, he noted that if the creators "invited [Anita] — it means they are tainted by her."
The previous wave of "cancellation" of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was related to artificial intelligence. The developers used AI as a placeholder for missing textures during development. Then they got rid of them, but some AI opponents were outraged by the very fact of using such technologies, and the game was quickly labeled "AI slop."
Previously, another high-profile game suffered due to the mention of Anita Sarkeesian's name in the credits. Now the creators of Slay the Spire 2 are receiving negative reviews on Steam not only because of balance, but also because of their connection to Anita.
