Universal and Nintendo have officially revealed the digital release date for "Super Mario: Galactic Movie." The animated film will be available for home viewing on May 19 – seven weeks after its global theatrical release.
The film premiered on April 1 and has already grossed approximately $942 million worldwide. While it won't reach the $1.36 billion achieved by "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," for a project with a budget of around $110 million, this is still a huge success.
Simultaneously with the digital version, the film will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD. Universal promises over an hour of bonus materials. The list of bonuses includes documentary features on the making of the film, its music, characters, and numerous Easter eggs scattered throughout the movie.
A third installment has not yet been officially announced, but Nintendo clearly has no doubts about the future of the series. Jack Black previously hinted that the next film might be released in 2029, and concurrently, the company is preparing a Donkey Kong spin-off and a full-length adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
