Nintendo Plans Game-Based Films for Ten Years Ahead - Insider Reveals Adaptation List
It seems Nintendo has ambitious plans to expand its cinematic universe.
According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, the company is considering about ten new projects that could be released over the next decade. The mentioned films can be divided into two categories: those already in development and those still being discussed at the idea stage and may never reach screens.
In addition to the obvious sequel to the "Super Mario Bros. Movie" series, expected in 2029, the developing films include a Donkey Kong movie with a 2028 release, a Star Fox movie planned for 2030, and a Kirby adaptation in early development. Of all these projects, only Donkey Kong has been officially confirmed.
However, the insider did not include "The Legend of Zelda" adaptation, which is officially set to be released on May 7, 2027. This is likely because it is already known. But the list also lacks a Metroid film, even though at the end of January 2026, authoritative insider Daniel Richtman reported that the film had entered active development.
Among the projects currently only being discussed are films based on Luigi’s Mansion and Yoshi’s Island, a separate film about Bowsers, a separate film about Princess Peach and Rosalina, and a Super Smash Bros. adaptation. The latter, according to the insider, will be released after Star Fox, despite Shigeru Miyamoto recently stating that such a crossover is not planned.
It is highly probable that some of these projects will never see the light of day, but it is already clear that Nintendo intends to gradually expand its cinematic universe.
