There's a whole "Saber universe": Manager says Toxic Commando will help improve Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando metrics didn't please the publisher, but the developers are happy.

This year saw the release of John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, a new co-op shooter from Saber Interactive, on PC and consoles. Publisher Focus Entertainment (Pullup) previously reported in a financial statement that the project started worse than expected, but a studio representative is more optimistic.

In an interview with IGN, Tim Willits stated:

We're really happy [with John Carpenter's Toxic Commando], and as for Focus's opinion, they're a public company, so they have to say what they have to say. We'll leave that to them. But as for us, we're very happy [with the project's results]. We have several new things planned. And we have a pretty good player base, by the way.

Tim Willits explained that John Carpenter's Toxic Commando "brought more people into the Saber universe":

When I say "Saber universe," I mean people who fall in love with one of our games and then start paying attention to others. For example, Space Marine 2 already has 14 million players. That's a ******* lot. Just one game! And then there's World War Z. Remember? 30 million people played it. That's insane. More people played that game than watched the movie or read the book.

He also noted that the technical improvements implemented in Toxic Commando will be used for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.

Updates continue to be released for John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. In September, Saber Interactive added new content to the game and launched its second season.
