The horror film "The Backrooms" has not yet been widely released, but director Kane Parsons is already hinting at a sequel. At the film's premiere, the director told ScreenRant that it would be difficult for him to put an end to The Backrooms story, and made it clear that viewers should expect new projects in the universe in the foreseeable future.
"I think we have a couple of ideas that we're looking at right now. As for The Backrooms, it's hard for me to say that it's over. I guess that's all I can say right now, but I think we'll see something else in the foreseeable future."
The director did not directly announce "The Backrooms 2", but the wording sounds quite transparent. Parsons has been closely associated with the universe since 2022, when he began releasing a web series on YouTube based on the internet creepypasta about liminal spaces. The videos garnered tens of millions of views and brought the author worldwide fame, and the upcoming horror film will be The Backrooms' first step into feature-length format.
According to the film's plot, Chiwetel Ejiofor's character finds a passage to a strange dimension and ends up in a labyrinth of rooms with broken spatial logic. The cast also includes Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia.
"The Backrooms" will officially be released in Russian cinemas on June 4, 2026.
