The looter-shooter's servers are not being shut down yet.

In May, Bungie addressed the Destiny 2 community, announcing that the studio is discontinuing active support for the project. According to the developers, after the release of The Final Shape, it became clear to them that they needed to move on.

The final update for Destiny 2 is scheduled for release on June 9. The game's creators promise to ensure that the looter-shooter remains playable going forward, much like the original Destiny:

Many of the changes in this final update will be aimed at making Destiny 2 enjoyable to return to. We are proud of Destiny 2, where it has taken us, and the legacy it has left. Thanks to you, our universe has become truly vast — it has been built over years on shared stories, adventures, and victories.

Bungie has already begun brainstorming ideas for future projects, but the developers have not yet elaborated on their further plans.

Currently, Bungie studio supports another game-as-a-service — the extraction-shooter Marathon. The next season will soon begin in the game, and a PvE mode will be available.
