Sony Pictures has released two new posters for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil and the first first-person shot. The director also confirmed that the film will feature first-person shooter-style episodes and classic over-the-shoulder filming.
The film will tell a standalone story in the Resident Evil universe. The main character is a courier, Brian, played by Austin Abrams. He is tasked with delivering a mysterious briefcase to a Raccoon City hospital during a viral outbreak.
Cregger has repeatedly stated that he wants to bring the film closer to the feel of Capcom games. Therefore, Resident Evil will center on an unprepared hero who finds himself in a nightmare and is forced to survive with limited resources – just like players. The director spoke in more detail about his approach in a separate video.
Resident Evil will premiere on September 18, 2026.
