Classic zombies will be just a small part of a whole ensemble of disgusting creatures.

The new Resident Evil film will not be a classic zombie horror. Director Zach Cregger explicitly states that the movie will feature only a few scenes with “real” zombies, and some of them were already shown in the debut trailer released on April 30.

According to the director, he consciously decided to go beyond the usual formula and focus on “all sorts of strange abominations” that appear under the influence of the T-virus. Cregger believes that limiting oneself to only zombies means missing an opportunity.

"I wouldn't call it a zombie movie. I just feel like the T-virus has the ability to do amazing things to the human body and the surrounding world. So, limiting it to just zombies is a missed opportunity. I tried to make the film more diverse."

Cregger himself calls the project his “craziest” film. The director tried to convey the feeling of the games in the series, so each new location brings new threats, and the camera constantly follows the main character – a courier played by Austin Abrams.

The premiere of the new "Resident Evil" is scheduled for September 18, 2026.
