Plays Dota 2, sails on a yacht, and opposes censorship in Steam - Valve veterans reveal what Gabe Newell is up to
It seems that Valve's boss is not involved in the company's business processes.
Recently, Bloomberg published a major article dedicated to Valve. Among other things, the article mentions the "inner workings" of the company that gave gamers Steam.
According to sources, Valve's boss tries not to participate in most day-to-day decisions at the company, and instead plays Dota 2 or is on his yacht, where he has an office and the opportunity to regularly go diving (Gabe previously appeared in an advertisement for his vessel, which was built at his own shipyard).
Discussions about censorship on Steam continue online, and the Bloomberg article mentions one instance when the need to block pornographic content was discussed. Gabe once lashed out at a legal consultant. Karl Quackenbush proposed more active moderation on Steam, and the Valve boss, hearing such a suggestion, asked:
What the f*** am I paying you for if that's your opinion?
Steam moderation continues to be controversial to this day. Last year, adult games came under fire due to activist actions, but such projects continue to regularly appear in the store and delight fans.
