While viewers await the premiere of the third season, the creators of "House of the Dragon" are already working on the series finale. Showrunner Ryan Condal has once again confirmed that the fourth season will be the last for the project, and the team is already discussing scripts with HBO.
“We’ve already started showing scripts to HBO. This is our early version, and there are still many months of work ahead. But at this point, we’ve progressed as far in creating the new season as we have in polishing the old one.”
Ryan Condal does not hide his excitement about the opportunity to conclude the adaptation of George R. R. Martin's book "Fire & Blood" and states that the team's ambitions are colossal — the final act will be the most spectacular show they have ever made:
“The mechanism is launched and running at full capacity. The fourth season, the end, the final act — this is the story we’ve been waiting for so long, so we are all incredibly excited about the opportunity to complete it.”
The concluding chapter will wrap up the story of the bloody Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons. Condal has already hinted that a happy ending in Westeros is not to be expected, but the creators will try to maintain balance and not turn the show into a “grim death march.”
The wait for the denouement will be long: filming for the fourth season is scheduled for spring 2027. The third season of "House of the Dragon" premieres on HBO Max on June 21, 2026, and will begin with the massive naval Battle of the Gullet.
