House of the Dragon spin-off about the Sea Snake is still in development - Steve Toussaint
The "Game of Thrones" universe may be expanded with another project.
As part of the promotional campaign for the third season of "House of the Dragon," which premieres on June 21, 2026, Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon, shared news about the fate of the solo project about the Sea Snake, tentatively titled "Nine Voyages."
Toussaint recalled that the first discussions about the series began several years ago, during the filming of the debut season of "House of the Dragon." The actor admitted that he was initially excited by the idea, but then he saw an obvious problem: he would no longer be able to play a 21-year-old Corlys in live-action.
"I thought: damn, I won't be able to play a 21-year-old again, time has passed. But then George Martin reassured me, saying that the project would be animated, and I replied that it was a great idea."
The actor recently met with Martin in person and concluded after their conversation that work on the show is ongoing. However, HBO has not yet officially greenlit "Nine Voyages."
Earlier, media reports suggested that Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of "Primal" and "Samurai Jack," might be involved in the project. George R. R. Martin himself also confirmed that the series would be animated, explaining it by budget constraints.
A significant part of young Corlys Velaryon's adventures unfolds on the open sea, so a live-action series would require the construction of large-scale port sets around the world and complex filming on water. The animated format will allow showing sea voyages without such production limitations.
