In June, The Breach Update (1.28) was released for Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition. Suddenly, Techland decided to rework the early part of the game, removing content related to Spike from the prologue.
This caused a wave of outrage and negative reviews on Steam. Against this backdrop, the developers published a "message from Spike" to the community on the Dying Light franchise's social media account:
Some of you noticed I was gone. And that's good – it means you were paying attention. I really needed to step away for a while. I got pulled into something new – a different kind of job that needs to be handled before I show up again. And I want you to know: I appreciate all your messages and concern. Who would have thought such an old survivor would be missed so much? It means a lot to me. When I return – and I will return – I'll need your help. A special set of skills will be required, so be ready. For now, keep your boots laced, your blade sharp, and your eyes open.
Players believe that Techland is currently developing an expansion or content update for Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition, in which they plan to bring Spike back.
