Some fans fear for the fate of Resident Evil 5.

the remake of the fifth main installment of the franchise could be next. However, another project was recently announced.

During the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica — a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica — Capcom used a specific notation that sparked a new theory within the franchise's fan community.

SynthPotato drew players' attention to the fact that at a certain point in the trailer, the title was shown as "RE V". On one hand, "V" is the first letter in the word "Veronica", and on the other, it can be interpreted as the Roman numeral five:

Capcom specifically turned "Code Veronica" into "RE:V", right? Like they're making it the real "fifth" main game in the series' story? Or am I just overthinking when I read the title Resident Evil Veronica?

RinoTheBouncer noticed SynthPotato's post on the social network and said that he had also thought about it, and shared his thoughts:

I thought about it too, but technically it's more like the third or fourth game, not the fifth. Because story-wise, it's a continuation of Resident Evil 2, and chronologically it came out after RE3 and before RE4 and 5. Unless they're going to rename the fifth part's remake to the sixth, and the sixth part's remake to the seventh.

Resident Evil Veronica is scheduled for release in 2027. Capcom has not yet announced a specific release date for the remake. You can add the game to your Steam wishlist via the following link.
