Hunt: Showdown 1896 gets a new hunter, a Maxim machine gun, and a Fortress - Crytek responds to criticism of point of interest spawns
Crytek continues to actively deliver new content for the game.
In June, Crytek introduced a major update 2.8 "Road to Hell" for Hunt: Showdown 1896, as well as the premium add-on It Takes a Rogue.
With the DLC, a new hunter was added to the game — the Iron Reaver, the set also includes the gear "Such is Life" (Mosin-Nagant "Avtomat"), "Widow's Son" (Pax "Vernyak"), and "Get Up" (healing syringe).
From a lore perspective, this character had been hiding for a long time and was presumed dead, but events in Louisiana attracted him and he decided to "resurrect":
Arriving from the lawless wastes of Australia, the Iron Reaver lay low for years, diligently feigning death. Hearing of what happened in Louisiana, he realized it was time to don his worn armor once more.
With update 2.8, Hunt: Showdown 1896 introduced the event location "Fortress". The developers explained that fortresses have three main zones — trenches, a camp, and a fortified building. In the large army tent, you can find a scout map, sealed boons, tarot cards, and more. And in the "Fortified Building", players will find a caged boss, a Maxim 1895 machine gun, a sealed box with explosives, and "many ways to replenish ammunition".
"Caged Bosses" are enemies that can be banished and found at the "Fortress" location. Upon successful banishment, they drop one reward:
Before banishment, this target has an active boss whisper, allowing it to detect nearby players. Throughout the "Road to Hell" event, a Caged Boss is guaranteed to appear in every mission — these missions will only have 1 regular boss, as well as a chance for an additional special target to appear. This means that there can now be a maximum of 3 reward sources in a match.
Some Hunt: Showdown 1896 fans "expressed concern" that new points of interest (Fortress, field infirmary, and army supplies) could in rare cases appear too close to each other. Crytek responded by stating that "their placement is well-thought-out and strategically driven, designed to encourage more active engagement".
Nevertheless, the feedback was heard, and the developers said that some of the rules governing placement logic will also change when the second possible Fortress locations appear in Chapter 2:
In the coming days, we will closely monitor spawn locations and their impact on gameplay before making any decisions about possible changes.
