Crusader Kings III to get "By God Alone" DLC about Christianity - players can become the Pope
Paradox will soon release another major DLC with playable theocracies and more.
The developers of the grand strategy game Crusader Kings III have published a trailer for the "By God Alone" expansion and revealed its release date.
With this DLC, the developers will invite players to immerse themselves in the religious life of the Middle Ages. Crusader Kings III will introduce playable theocracies, meaning players will be able to control the lands of the Pope. The Papacy will have "completely new sources of wealth and power" available to it.
This main expansion includes various content related to Christianity – players will be able to witness the Great Schism between Western Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, and more:
A new permanent situation for Christian powers opens up actions and decisions affecting the development of the Christian faith. You can participate in Ecumenical Councils, determining the dogmas and beliefs of your denomination.
The creators of Crusader Kings III will "significantly revise" the dogma system – at its center will be characters' attitudes towards their faith, as well as the norms of behavior considered appropriate within it.
The developers will allow players to appoint a "puppet" to interact with the ecclesiastical bureaucracy. They also noted that rites differing from existing standards of faith "undermine the authority and well-being of the church and can be deemed heretical."
You can add the "By God Alone" expansion for Crusader Kings III to your Steam wishlist via the following link. The release is scheduled for September 30, 2026 – this DLC is part of the Chapter V bundle.
