Controllers may simply "drop out" of games. Valve has already responded to the situation.

Steam Machine has started to reach reviewers, and initial tests have revealed a number of issues. As experts found, Valve's new device inherited some features of SteamOS, originally developed for Steam Deck.

The operating system was found to contain many directories, system entries, and other elements mentioning Steam Deck. At first glance, this looks like harmless code remnants left over from development, but in practice, they can cause real problems in games.

For example, some projects mistakenly identify Steam Machine as Steam Deck on first launch and automatically activate settings intended for the portable device. In particular, in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, this led to the disabling of mouse and keyboard support at the start of the game.

Valve has already responded to the situation by adding a special setting for individual games that disables automatic device detection as Steam Deck. This should help avoid such conflicts in compatible projects.

Although Valve has repeatedly stated its plans to develop SteamOS as a universal platform for various devices, the discovered problem indicates that SteamOS still largely relies on solutions created for Steam Deck.
