Xbox Wants to Transfer Halo Franchise to Activision Blizzard - Insider
Activision Blizzard has shown how to manage its franchises. It seems Xbox is considering adopting their approaches.
Recently, during the Xbox Two podcast, insider and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden shared information from sources.
According to his information, the possibility of transferring the management of the Halo franchise is currently being discussed:
I heard a crazy rumor that Halo might be transferred to Activision's management. Honestly, I don't really believe it myself right now, but if it does happen – you heard it here first. In general, they are currently thinking in this direction: "how to rebuild Halo so that the franchise finally begins to realize the potential it has?" Because so far, I would say, that hasn't really happened.
Corden noted that Xbox is "closely watching how Activision works and Blizzard's approaches." According to the journalist, Halo could well operate as a Blizzard-level franchise.
He is interested in the Blizzard show that will take place in a few months:
BlizzCon will take place in September, and there, I think, it will become clear what overall strategy Xbox will adhere to regarding Halo. This can be understood by how Blizzard works with its other franchises. There are many rumors circulating now: for example, about Warcraft spin-offs or a shooter in the StarCraft universe, so questions arise: will we see more Halo spin-offs, as has happened in the past? Will Halo be transferred to other studios? Could, for example, a Halo from id Software appear?
However, Corden currently has "nothing concrete" – he just knows that "right now [the transfer of Halo] is actively being discussed within the company."
