Reviewers mostly praised the return of a grown-up Aang.

The animated feature film "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" received 89% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes after 18 reviews at the time of publication.

Critics largely welcomed the return of a grown-up Aang. Reviews most often highlight the high-quality hand-drawn animation, battle choreography, and respectful treatment of the original animated series' characters. The film is called a worthy continuation of the story and a transitional link between "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra".

"It took almost 20 years, but 'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender' is finally the worthy sequel fans have been waiting for."
Samantha Nelson from Polygon

The main criticisms are related to the script and pacing. Some reviewers believe that the film moves too quickly from one conflict to another, and emotional moments resonate more strongly with viewers who are well-acquainted with the original series. William Bibbiani from TheWrap called the film visually impressive but insufficiently developed.

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" will be released on July 25 on Paramount+. Before that, the film will be shown to fans at Comic-Con in San Diego, and from July 24 to 30, limited theatrical screenings will take place in New York and Los Angeles.

Initially, the premiere was scheduled for autumn 2026, but after a leak of the full version of the film with unfinished visual effects in April, Paramount revised the release schedule.
