Konami Reveals Technical Details of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2: MGS4 to Get Stable 4K and 60 fps for the First Time
Konami also discussed improvements to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Konami has shared details about the technical specifications of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, confirming that the legendary Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be available for the first time in stable 4K at 60 frames per second on modern platforms.
According to information released by the company, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions will run at 4K resolution at 60 fps. Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch 2 owners will get a 1440p/60 fps mode, while in portable mode on Switch 2, Metal Gear Solid 4's resolution will drop to 1080p at 60 fps. The same figures are stated for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on the new Nintendo console.
Meanwhile, users of the original Nintendo Switch are once again at a disadvantage. On this platform, both games will run only at 1080p at 30 fps in docked mode and 720p at 30 fps in portable mode. This seems especially strange in the case of Peace Walker — the game was originally released on PSP in 2010, and its HD version for Xbox 360 already supported 60 frames per second at that time.
For fans of the series, the return of Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the main event. The original PlayStation 3 version could technically reach 60 fps, but this only happened in certain scenes. During intense firefights, performance often dropped significantly below 30 frames per second. Thanks to modern hardware, the game will be able to run with a truly stable frame rate for the first time.
Konami also discussed improvements to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The game will receive several resolution options and image scaling. In addition, the developers showed a High Resolution mode for the hand-drawn cutscenes — the updated version demonstrates a noticeably sharper image compared to the original.
