RAM Thieves from Gaming PCs in Esports Hotels Arrested in China

In total, the suspects stole 16 RAM modules.

In the Chinese city of Shihezi (Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region), police arrested two men who were stealing RAM modules from gaming computers installed in esports hotel rooms.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators, known only by their surnames Li and Cheng, took advantage of the sharp increase in RAM prices observed in the global market. Initially, Li acted alone, removing RAM modules from gaming PCs located in hotel rooms for esports enthusiasts. Later, Cheng joined him, and they continued a series of thefts in several hotels in the second half of May.

In total, the suspects stole 16 RAM modules. They sold the stolen components through online platforms and regular stores, earning a total of about 13,200 yuan (approximately 1,950 US dollars).

However, the scheme did not last long. New guests began to complain about non-functional gaming computers: after turning them on, only a black screen was displayed, as the systems lacked RAM. After checking the equipment, hotel staff discovered the missing components and contacted the police.

Law enforcement managed to identify the suspects and arrest both men. They are currently in custody, and the criminal investigation is ongoing.
