Marvel Changes Mind: "Wonder Man" Canceled After First Season

Previously, the series about Simon Williams had already been officially renewed for a second season.

Marvel Studios has canceled the production of the second season of the series "Wonder Man." The decision came as a surprise to the industry, as the project had already received an official renewal for a second season in March.

The first season, released in late January 2026, became Marvel's highest-rated series in the last four years: it received 91% positive reviews from critics and 87% positive audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, the lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II received an Emmy nomination.

Despite these achievements, full-fledged development of the second season apparently never began. According to Variety, Marvel did not manage to assemble a writers' room, and the authors involved in the continuation have already been released from their obligations. One of the reasons for the cancellation is unstable viewership: in its debut week, the series garnered 618 million viewing minutes and ranked eighth in Nielsen's original streaming projects. Subsequently, "Wonder Man" did not return to the chart, and 41% of views were provided by viewers aged 35 to 49 – this was the highest share among all projects in the top ten for that week, indicating weak interest from a younger audience.

Nevertheless, the cancellation of the solo show does not put an end to the characters themselves: Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery can still appear in future feature films or MCU team crossovers. However, their further fate remains unknown for now.
