Koei Tecmo Unveils Mobile RPG with AI Version of Ryza - Pre-registration Open

The developers call RyzaChat an experiment at the intersection of generative AI and traditional RPG.

Koei Tecmo, Gust studio, and Japanese company SpiralAI have unveiled RyzaChat: Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza — a mobile RPG centered around interacting with an AI version of Ryza.

At its core, RyzaChat resembles an interactive text-based RPG. At the beginning of the story, the player helps Ryza build a boat and leave Kurken Island, after which they gain access to a world map with AI-generated quests. These quests must be completed using text commands. In addition to Ryza, other characters from the original Atelier Ryza trilogy will appear in the game, but it is not yet known whether they will be full-fledged NPCs or player interlocutors.

In addition to the story mode, the developers will add a free chat with Ryza. The heroine will be able to respond to player messages, change facial expressions, and accompany her lines with gestures. The dialogue model was created using scripts from the Atelier Ryza trilogy and additional character materials. This approach should help preserve the heroine's recognizable character even in conversations outside of pre-written scenes.

The creators call the project an experiment at the intersection of generative AI and traditional RPGs and specifically emphasize that artificial intelligence is used only for text generation and speech synthesis. Illustrations, portraits, animations, and promotional materials are developed by artists under the supervision of Toridamono — the designer of the original Ryza. The heroine's voice also maintains a connection to the acting performance: the speech synthesis system uses specially recorded lines from voice actress Yuri Noguchi.

The developers pay special attention to the issue of authorship. SpiralAI has created a system for distributing a portion of the revenue among artists, voice actors, and rights holders whose works are used in the creation of the AI character.

RyzaChat: Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza will be released on Android and iOS in August 2026. Pre-registration is now open on Google Play and the App Store.
