"Spider-Man: A New Day" has grossed over $1.67 billion in just 12 days of global release. According to preliminary data from Variety, North America accounted for $655 million, while international markets brought in just over $1 billion. The final results for the second weekend will be announced tomorrow.
In North America, the film earned another $145 million in its second weekend – this is the third-best result in history, with only eight films ever grossing more than $100 million in their second weekend. Only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with $149 million and "Avengers: Endgame" with $147 million earned more. However, as with the first weekend, "A New Day" could still break the record after final counts.
Analysts are now watching to see if "A New Day" can set another record. With its current momentum, the film could become the first to gross over $1 billion in North America alone. Currently, "The Force Awakens" holds the lead with $936.6 million.
The main intrigue now lies in the final box office. Analysts have no doubt that the film will gross more than $2 billion: conservative forecasts suggest around $2.5 billion, while optimistic ones do not rule out $3 billion. No film has ever surpassed this mark: "Avatar" earned about $2.9 billion, and "Avengers: Endgame" – about $2.8 billion, including re-releases. Therefore, if Spider-Man reaches the $3 billion mark, he will set a new historic record.
