PlayStation 3 Emulation on Android Gains Momentum - ARMSX3 Receives Seven Updates in a Week
The creators of the mobile port of RPCS3 continue to improve the emulator and expand the list of compatible games.
The developers of the experimental PlayStation 3 emulator for Android, ARMSX3, have released seven updates in a week. During this time, the project reached version 0.7.2 and received new features along with compatibility improvements.
ARMSX3 now recognizes games in unzipped folders and allows installing digital editions in PKG format along with RAP licenses. Trophies, save states, and ANGLE support – a layer for translating graphics commands between different APIs – have also been added.
The developers improved firmware installation on low-end devices, fixed pause functionality, and added automatic shader cache deletion along with the game. Since version 0.7, the emulator uses the Oboe audio system by default. A number of changes also improved compatibility with mobile graphics accelerators.
The list of supported games has also expanded. Armored Core: For Answer and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 have already achieved playable status. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows now reaches gameplay, and Sonic Unleashed and the God of War III demo have started loading.
This does not yet mean that games can be comfortably played from start to finish, but the progress is solid, considering that the first version of ARMSX3 was released just a week ago.
The current version of ARMSX3 can be downloaded for free on GitHub.
