Harvey Smith now has his own studio.

Dishonored, released over a decade ago, is still considered one of the best stealth games in history. However, few know how risky its launch was for Arkane Studios itself. According to game co-creator Harvey Smith, at the start of development, the studio had only about four months of funding left.

Before Dishonored, Arkane spent several years on contract development, but these projects brought almost no desired results to the team. In an attempt to stay afloat, the studio simultaneously worked on nine projects, collaborating with EA and Ubisoft, among others. Among the ideas were various zombie games.

At some point, the developers realized that such a strategy would lead to nothing good. Instead of trying to grab many projects, Arkane decided to focus on one game and bring it to the highest possible level.

At some point, we realized that this wasn't working. We are here to do something very specific. Let's focus on that.

This project became Dishonored. The decision to fully concentrate on one game ultimately changed Arkane's fate. The project received recognition from players and critics, became one of the notable representatives of stealth-action games of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, and the studio itself gained the opportunity to continue developing its own projects.
