Up to 80% of Star Wars Zero Company Team Sent on Unpaid Leave Shortly Before Release
The decision was made by Bit Reactor itself, not EA or Disney.
Bit Reactor, the studio that developed the tactical game Star Wars Zero Company, sent most of its employees on unpaid leave just weeks before the project's release. According to Game File, the decision affected about 80% of the team, and the studio itself had already spent most of its available funds by the time of release.
Another source told the publication that only a small "skeleton" crew remained at the studio, tasked with fixing potential bugs after the game's release.
This refers specifically to unpaid leave, not the final dismissal of all these employees. Employees retain their status as company staff but are temporarily not paid and are not listed as active members of its workforce.
A Bit Reactor representative emphasized that the decision was made by the studio itself. According to the company, Electronic Arts, which publishes Star Wars Zero Company, and Disney, which owns the Star Wars license, had no involvement in this.
Bit Reactor called the decision difficult and noted that it was made before it was known how successful the game's launch would be.
One of the reasons for the situation, according to Game File, was the studio's financial situation: Bit Reactor had practically exhausted most of its funds directly before the release of Star Wars Zero Company.
