Ray Tracing Hit GTA VI: Experts Explain Why the Game Looks Blurry
Digital Foundry considers image quality to be the main problem with GTA VI. The game on PS5 may run at 1440p without upscaling to 4K, and ray tracing and other effects further degrade image clarity.
Digital Foundry experts have addressed the complaints about the blurry image in GTA VI. According to their assessment, Rockstar may be using a fixed 1440p resolution on PS5 without scaling to 4K. Additionally, strong motion blur and a shallow depth of field effect further blur the image.
We've seen in previous demonstrations that the game runs at roughly 1440p. (...) I've calculated it many times, and it always came out to 1440p. So, it seems to be a fixed resolution, not dynamic. But unlike many games running at 1440p, this game doesn't seem to use 4K upscaling. Therefore, the image never becomes sharp 4K, at least in my opinion. It's always a bit soft.
Experts also noted ray tracing noise. In their opinion, ray tracing could be one of the reasons for visual compromises and the 30 frames per second limit.
At the same time, GTA VI remains one of the most technologically advanced games due to its detail, draw distance, city density, and character animations.
