The Gaming Industry Sees an Increase in Employees Despite Mass Layoffs

Despite a wave of mass layoffs, the number of people employed in the gaming industry has grown by almost 1% since 2022 - jobs are actively shifting from the US.

The number of people working in the gaming industry has grown despite mass layoffs. Jobs are increasingly shifting from the US to Asia.

According to ASGC founder Amir Satvat, the gaming industry could lose over 14,000 employees by the end of 2026. However, since 2022, the number of employees has grown by almost 1%.

Satvat attributes this to a geographical redistribution of jobs. Companies are leaving the US due to higher labor costs, as well as in search of government benefits and available specialists. The US accounts for over 60% of recent layoffs, with more than half of the cuts affecting California.

At the same time, the number of jobs in the Asia-Pacific region has grown by 10%, mainly due to China. In Europe, the figure remained virtually unchanged.

Satvat notes that the scale of the Chinese gaming industry is often underestimated, so the overall picture does not look as bad as it might seem from news about layoffs.
