"Everything Becomes Boring": Miyazaki Speaks Out Against FromSoftware's Rules

Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that FromSoftware deliberately does not adhere to strict rules when creating games, as this makes projects boring and conservative.

The studio is known for Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Dark Souls, but according to head Hidetaka Miyazaki, the developers do not have a single formula.

FromSoftware doesn't have any mantra from above – like "this is how we make our games" – because if you start doing that, everything becomes boring and conservative. Over time, you have to stick to a certain set of rules and philosophy, and then it stops being interesting, and you can't create things that are fun.

He added that the studio prefers to follow ideas that it finds interesting. This, in his opinion, is what unites FromSoftware's games.

The Duskbloods also maintains the studio's signature style, using elements unusual for it, including ideas from extraction shooters. The game will be released in 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
